Savory hummus made with miso, discovered by chance in my family's kitchen.

"Some people eat to live, others live to eat." My fam falls in decidedly with the latter.

Never was this more true than during the holidays. We have a time honored tradition of hearty holiday appetizers.

Around 15 years ago on one fateful Christmas day, dear old Dad ran into a problem. We didn't have any tahini - a key hummus ingredient.

He rummaged through the fridge for a substitute. Unknowingly, the ingredient he chose led to the best hummus he ever made.

My dad replaced tahini with miso and the hummus was, well, astounding. So astounding it became the centerpiece at all future family gatherings.

The miso added a level of savoriness we didn't know was possible in hummus.

And that's how our miso hummus was born - by chance.
